Last night Marianne and I sat down and watched the 2001 movie A.I. – Artificial Intelligence. The movie was once a production project of Stanley Kubrick, but after the great directors death Steven Spielberg took control and completed the movie. From the first viewing years ago the movie has always had a surreal and predictive quality for me. Watching it now with new eyes A.I. still has that unique quality but with the added understanding of something larger taking place.
The alchemical process of transmutation is on clear display in the movie. Some obvious giveaways that alchemy is playing an important part in the story is nowhere more obvious than in the fact that David, the robot boy, is on a quest to become a real boy.
